Britain's most popular pets - kept by about 9% of British households - are fish kept in tanks, according to a 2013 Pet Food Manufacturers' Association (PFMA) survey. Second in the list are fish kept in ponds. In terms of sheer number, dogs come in third, although they are in fact top of the list in terms of the number of British households, since there is at least one dog in 25% of Britain's homes.
