This napkin design, featuring an understated single pheasant feather, would scarcely be out of place at banquet in a grand stately home with high-ranking aristocracy as the guests of honour.

Should you be in need of tips for just such an occasion, the Butlers' Guild advises us that a napkin should be placed to the left of the place setting or "cover", beside the array of forks. According to etiquette, at a formal dinner the guest of honour should always be served first followed by his or her partner. The man of the house should be served next and the lady of the house last of all.

Make of that what you will - we don't make up the rules, we just provide the napkins.

And what lovely napkins they are. Manufactured by Sibona, based in New Malden, Surrey, these white linen hand-embroidered napkins are things of beauty. Quite simply you will relish the quality and all humility will fly out of the window when the time comes to show them off to your friends - even if your home happens to be less than stately, your table linen will not be.
